SIN

THE PROBLEM OF SIN

In the original creation Adam and the angels were direct creations of God and were thus known as “sons of God”. Adam originally bore the image and nature of God, but when he disobeyed the will of God his Father and obeyed the will of the angel who first decided to do according to his own will, Adam inherited a Sin Nature which he passed on to his seed.

All who are born of Adam’s line have a Sin Nature. We call it Human Nature and it is Natural for all who are born of Adam to desire to do what they want. Human children are born with the desire to exercise their own will in a way that pleases them, even if it means being contrary to the will of God. We are not yet talking about the human child actually Sinning but rather that they are born with a desire or will to Sin.

Remember the all encompassing commandment of Satanism according to Aleister Crowley is to “Do What Thou Wilt”. So the commandment of Satanism is to Sin. According to the Apostle John the evidence that someone is of the devil is that they commit sin(1 John 3:8).

When a human does sin the heart and conscience is defiled. The two analogies given in scripture are that the substance of the heart turns from flesh to stone(Ezekiel 11:19-20) or that the conscience is seared as with a hot iron to the point of losing feeling when chastised(1 Timothy 4:1-2). Jesus said that sin comes from the heart (Luke 6:43-45) and that when someone sins they become a slave to sin(John 8:34). As a slave to sin man does not have a free will.

God cannot have a healthy relationship with someone who is being abusive toward His standards and character, and being cut off from God leads to spiritual death which also leads to physical death. God gave mankind His standards (laws / commandments) because a person does not know what sin is without a standard and he does not realize that he is a slave to sin until he tries to stop doing it and discovers that he cannot. Paul recounts his struggle with sin before his conversion in Romans 7:14-24.

When man sins the Holy Spirit of God begins to strive with man in order to bring him to Repentance, from which point God can begin to save him from his sin and heal the broken relationship. This striving is known as Grace.

When man discovers that he is a sinner against God and that he doesn’t want to be, he can begin to Repent. Repentance is turning from Darkness to Light, from the lies (fantasies) of Satan to the truth (reality) of God(Acts 26:18). Repentance includes recognition and admission of guilt and turning from the abuse against God’s standards and character and asking for Forgiveness and restoration of the relationship.

The problem at this point is that God cannot just Forgive and forget the abuse that has been done(Joshua 24:19). Perfect Love can Forgive but perfect Justice also requires Compensation for the sin committed, including a guarantee that the abuse will not continue in order for Trust to be restored.

Remember that the Nature of man has also been changed. He has gone from being a son of God to being a Human (a son of Adam and/or of the devil). The Human is a double minded Rebel and a Traitor against God, and the Penalty / Debt for this Treason is Death.

A substitutionary death alone deals with the Penalty for the Sin committed but it couldn’t deal with the Sinful Human Nature and as long as the Human Nature remains the Devil can tempt the Human into Sin and thus corruption of the Heart and Slavery to Sin.

From a Legal Perspective:

Forgiveness is a Pardon for Sin committed and is thus a Sealing of the Record of Sin until or unless the Sin continues at which point the Case of Sin will be reopened when the long-suffering of God is extinguished, the Holy Spirit being grieved to the point of ceasing to strive with man.

Under the Old Covenant the man could be Forgiven for his Sin but he could not obtain Remission from his Sins.

Remission of Sin is Liberty by Acquittal of Guilt or Expungement of Guilt from the record because of Restitution and a lasting change.

THE END OF SIN

The Good News is that Jesus came to Save His people FROM their Sins(Matthew 1:21).

When He died on the cross He paid the penalty as the substitutionary sacrifice for Sin but He also opened up the way that the human could be Born Again as a son of God once more. First the person has to humbly Repent, which means to turn away from Sin in order to be ready to surrender to Jesus. Then they must be Baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ for the Remission of their Sins as Jesus said in John 3:5 and as Peter said in Acts 2:38. In Romans 6 and Colossians 2:12-15 Paul expounded on this talking about being crucified with Christ Jesus and buried with Him in baptism for the destruction of the Old Man / Human Sin Nature.

In Acts 2:38 Peter said that when someone Repents and is Baptized to Jesus for the Remission of Sins they will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Remember that in John 6:13-15 Jesus said, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”

Remember that the coming of the Holy Spirit was prophesied in Ezekiel 36:25-27, “Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.”

This was the New Covenant which the Prophet Hosea spoke of in Hosea 2:19-20, “And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies. I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the LORD.”

And look in Romans 8:1-4, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

If it isn’t clear to you yet let us look at 1 John 3:6-11, “Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.”

Do you realize what this means? Is it clear to you? Do you understand that if you commit Sin that you are a child of the devil and that if you are Born Again that you CANNOT Sin? Let us look at another verse.

“We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.” -1 John 5:18

Do you understand? If the only begotten Son of God, Jesus Christ makes you Free Indeed FROM Sin you will not be able to Sin because He KEEPS you FROM Sin by His Holy Spirit. This is the Promise of God. This is what you must Believe with all your heart(Acts 8:37). Believe on the LORD Jesus Christ to Save you FROM your Sin with the Faith of a little child. Repent and be baptized in water calling on the name of the LORD Jesus Christ to save you FROM your Sins and you will be Born Again and receive the Holy Spirit and He will Cause you to Keep His commandments and judgments and do them.
